About
Mike Carter opened Carter's in January of 1978, in the small town of Adel, Ga. The modest location was walkup service only. He served Fried Chicken, BBQ and Fish. It did not take long for folks to be lined up to try his on special recipe for fried chicken or have a slaw dog with fresh made coleslaw. He would meet his wife, Julie Carter, who would come on board and help manage daily operations.
As the restaurant grew over the years, they would outgrow their current location. They purchased a property to build a larger store with a much-needed drive thru. The new location would open December of 1995. The restaurant would bring business to the small town as well as become a local dive.
Mike and Julie believed in hard work and had a strong faith, also new that taken care of others was at the center of how they would manage. They both instilled this in their children, in which would pay off. Matt Carter, Mike and Julies Son, would purchase the restaurant in January of 2020. Matt has since opened a second location in Quitman, Ga. and sold a franchise location to Carson Perkins in Nashville, Ga.
Carter's still uses a unique blend of spices with no preservatives in their chicken breader, coleslaw is ground daily by hand and BBQ is smoked on pits outback. We hope to expand with support of new franchises and have opportunity to bring our awesome recipes to more small towns.
